The two hundredth anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne was celebrated in 1890. The local paper reported it as follows:-

                         THE TWELFTH OF JULY

         LOCAL CELEBRATIONS TODAY

Loyal Orangemen are today celebrating the two hundredth anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne, and the great victory for Protestantism which was then achieved by King William "of immortal memory." In this district, which includes Broxburn, Airdrie, Coatbridge and Old Monkland, the general rendezvous of the amalgamated districts in this year is Wishaw, and elaborate arrangements have been made for the large concentration of the loyal demonstrators at this place. The Airdrie district comprises the following seven lodges:-- No 1, Chryston ; No 6, Drumgelloch; No 19, No 125 and No 229, Airdrie; No 70, Calderbank; No 94, Plains. After meeting in their respective lodges, the brethren, together with their wives, sweethearts and friends, march through the town, with the Airdrie Brass Band at their head, and converge on the Caledonian Station, where they will take seats in a special train at eleven o’clock. The train runs to Langloan, and there joins the main line for the rendezvous.

The Coatbridge district comprises, Coatbridge; Baillieston; Glenboig etc, and furnishes a heavy complement of Loyalists. They are to be conveyed on two special trains from Coatbridge to Wishaw, after having paraded the streets of the Iron Burgh with bands and banners.

The brethren from the east (Broxburn district) travel on a special train on the North British to Coatbridge, where they will be transferred from the North British Railway to the Caledonian, and be run on to Wishaw without swelling the throngs in the streets of Coatbridge. The same arrangements, of course, will hold good for the return journey.

The year following these celebrations was a memorable one for Airdrie District. This was 1891 and the year the hall in Baillies Lane was opened.
